How to get there
Spotting
point 2, lies parallel to the threshold of runway 25, yet on its northern side.
Leave the air terminal following the direction towards Rhodes Town (green line
on map). Approximately 100m right after the EKO gas station, you'll find a
gravel road on your left hand side, leading to the perimeter of ILS and PAPI and
HIRL lights of runway 25. At this point, the internal airport perimeter road is
safeguarded by a high wooden fence. In order to get a view of aircraft preparing
for take-off, you'll need a ladder or your car's roof.
There is no
obstacle for landing airgraft. This point is shady and the sea shore is just 50
metres away, yet the strong NW winds make swimming a challenge. Walking from the
air terminal takes 25 minutes. Getting here on you own car or by cab, will take
you roughly 10 minutes.
Light
conditions
Spotting
point 1 enables you to take photos either of aircraft taxiing for take-off from
runway 25 or landing aircraft. Optimal light conditions occur between noon time
and afternoon.
Photographic
equipment
300 mm lens
will be enough for landing aircraft, or those on runway 25 (B737 or A320).
Other information
You are
advised to stock up supplies before getting there, since Observation Point 2 is
remote and cars hardly pass from there.
